Do you have Male Labeled friends or family members who might be struggling with depression, anxiety, relationship conflict, or trauma, and they are not accessing the right kind of help?
There are higher rates of suicide and trauma amongst the Male Labeled, and yet they are less likely to access adequate mental healthcare. This is even more of a problem when you consider structural obstacles to healthcare such as racism, transphobia, biphobia, and homophobia. Beyond the Blue is a Survival Guide for the Male Labeled. It offers techniques for identifying, and lessening the impact of, depression, anxiety, relationship conflict and anger, and trauma. Beyond the Blue is due for release in October 2021, and I will shortly release a link to pre-order your copy. Beyond the Blue of your Trauma9/26/2021 Life is hard enough, but if you are dragging the weight of a trauma from your past, things can be so much harder.
Trauma can color the way you view yourself and the world around you (for example, ‘I am powerless’, ‘I am unlovable’, or ‘the world is an unsafe place’). A powerful first step is to identify that what you experienced was trauma, and then to get the right kind of help. Beyond the Blue, a Survival Guide for the Male Labelled, can help you with each of these two steps. Beyond the Blue is due for release in October 2021, and I will shortly release a link to pre-order your copy. After all, untreated depression, anxiety, and trauma, is a serious issue for all of us.
The trouble is, society is set up to create obstacles to mental healthcare. One such obstacle is the way we condition people who have been given the Male Label (for example, there are expectations that the Male Labelled must remain silent about emotional distress). Add to that structural obstacles to mental healthcare, such as racism, transphobia, biphobia, and homophobia, and we are faced with a significant societal issue. To take one step towards addressing at least some of this, I have produced a Survival Guide to help the Male Labelled recognize the signs of, and reduce the impact of, depression, anxiety, relationship conflict, and trauma. With the help of these simple survival strategies, the Male Labelled can survive but also thrive, and this can lead to a healthier, safer society for all. Do you pick them apart as you find the smallest of details that suggests a hint of potential conflict with a work colleague, a neighbor, a friend, or family member? Do you peer into that future uncertain and see overwhelming threats just waiting to topple onto you?
Sounds a bit like anxiety. Anxiety is a disproportionate and inappropriate response, so it needs to be distinguished from proportionate and appropriate fear. When your dog snarls at you, it is proportionate to be afraid, and it is appropriate to withdraw from it. Like a cloud of malcontent, anxiety can hang over a whole range of seemingly innocuous situations; you end up avoiding making that telephone call, or you fear seeing your friends at the shop, or you avoid collecting your trash cans from the front of your house. Anxiety is serious mental health issue, and it affects millions of people throughout this country. Anxiety can be debilitating, and it can impact your physical, not just mental, health, and this can all sound very gloom and doom until you realize that you have tools that can help you survive anxiety. In fact, you can use these tools to improve your life. Beyond the Blue is a survival guide to help you navigate the challenges of anxiety, depression, relationship conflict, and trauma.
